Day 2 of An Excellent Adventure

The night before the East Hampton Library event I went to dinner with Malek a good friend. Here we are at Townline BBQ - Best BBQ around East Hampton. Thank goodness fort Malek, she offered to help me set up my presentation at the event.

In order for us to set up we had to park a football field away from the event and carry 2 heavy boxes (15 books in each box) plus my display. It was sunny and hot but we arrived in the tent armed and ready. Of course Malek thought to bring bottled water (I would never have thought that far ahead)

The set up did not go as planned!

There were supposed to be 2 authors at an 8 ft table however there were so many children’s book authors (more than 30) that it was tight fit. Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t complain much and I didn’t because I was excited. Here’s what my set up looked like.

By the time people started to arrive if you look behind me in the next photo you can see 2 people cover the display. I’M NOT COMPLAINING! Well ……. a little.

When I sold my art at shows Len would say to me when I complained to him “people look but they don’t see” (oops a little complaint). It’s amazing to me that people will go out on a very hot day and walk by, pushing baby strollers, walking with their dogs and looking straight ahead, never mind looking at my display, not looking at many displays it just a Sunday walk in the park. Well some lookers and some buyers.

By now 4 PM and I was hot and tired. I had signed and written a little something in 6 books and I was happy, and then wonderful sight appeared. Dr. Arthur Agatston with his family (In case you don’t know who he is - he is the author of The South Beach Diet Book - annnnnndddd my cardiologist! I came from behind the table to give him a hug and shake hands with his family.

I know he had seen my book somewhere and admired the book and is a supporter of the East Hampton Library. WELL he bought 15 books for his grandchildren’s school PLUS 4 books which I inscribed for his grandchildren. I had told him of my upcoming Excellent Adventure for a D-Day tour and he was telling me that his wife’s father, a surgeon who participated in that part of the world during WW II. He has stories to share next time I see him and this is going to make my tour even greater.

I donated all my proceeds to the East Hampton Library and Vicky came to my table and thanked me for my contribution.

So all in all it was a great day - Malek and I didn’t have to lug two cases back to car just 4 books and my display. I was exhausted!

BY THE WAY….. My pink hair is all but gone - before I leave for D-Day tour I will be in New York getting more or less my own color back - Stay tuned to this channel for a picture!
